Spring Fling results

So I was entered in the meet, that's the good news. Ok there's more. I didn't get injured. Threw the 56 lb. weight for the first time. Just did a swing between the legs, swing it to the left a bit and cast it out. about 17'. My shortest throwing pr. But a PR nonetheless.

A highlight was the shot put; the last event it turns out. 13.09. Pretty good, and the leading throw, until Matt Burks exploded in the last round with 13.18. I threw after him, but couldn't respond. I don't seem to respond well in the clutch. But still 43'1" isn't bad. Still chasing 44'.

Otherwise deplorable discus: 34m.

Hammer 27m. 35lb weight, 9.47m I believe. But all PRs, if only because I've never thrown the in competition before.

I didn't get any applause until the shot put. I didn't particularly enjoy being the "comic relief" practically while throwing most implements. But then my charter isn't to be mediocre in 5 events, it's to be really good in one event. Or at least break my PR in it. But really I need to break 47'6", my triple jump PR, by Nationals. Then I can rest.

Spring Fling

I compete in the Spring Fling tomorrow in West Seattle.
Shot Put
Discus
Hammer
35 lb. Weight throw
56 lb. Weight throw (which I've never thrown before)

I did a light upper body push work out last night (only up to 175 x 3 x 6 bench) and did a final shot put/hammer session Wednesday (41'6" with the 16.5! and around 115' with the 14# hammer). I'd like to think I'll challenge my ATPR of 44'/13.52m, but we'll see.

Will I do well? Will I injure myself? Am I even signed up? All these questions and more will be answered in less than 24 hours. Stay tuned. WEigh in is at 8:30am and the Shot starts at 9:30 if anyone wants to come watch.

Resoles.com

For my "Ring" friends, Here's a photo of the resoles.com sole examples I received in 2003:

For reference, the krinkle gum is the thickest at almost 1/4". I use Krinkle Black for my rain shoes and they're quite grippy, even when the texture wore off. It's also thicker than the Rain Dot. The Urethane is actually semi-opaque, which would look cool I think.
And here's some descriptions. Note the prices are probably out of date (maybe not), but will give you a ballpark figure.

My First Limerick

I posted my first limerick the other day on a platform forum. I'll pick up the thread from a debate on the merits of a 3' center section of wood versus 4':

Christian: Yes, a 4' width for the wood/plywood will tear up the wood. I would suggest going with 3' width for your wood insert. Then get a 5x7' stall mat and cut it in 1/2 for the two rubber drop zones.

Lincoln: I've never had a problem with bumpers tearing up the wood. I have seen lifters use every inch of the 4' center section however.Don't reinvent the wheel. 4 feet works just fine. 3 feet won't.

Christian: Strange you should mention ancient events like inventing the wheel, because recently I was in Ireland and came across this limerick inscribed in an old stone fence in a field:

"There once was a gent from Bangor,

Whose bumpers were eating the floor.

He said almost crying, as splinters went flying,

inserts should be three and not four."

Now I don't know how they measured lifting platforms in the old country, maybe it was feet, but maybe it was cubits or something. But I'd be inclined to follow the wisdom of the elders...

Lincoln: It must have been cubits.
Wisdom of MY elders:

In my world, a "smidgeon over 3' wide" is called 4 feet. Not one single vendor of lifting platforms makes them with a 3' center section. No one.

etc. etc.

My new post

I'm still here. I still update my blog. I promise.

Let's see, what's new...

It snowed this weekend.

We played in a "Rock Star" contest and I was "Guitarnivore". Ok, actually I ceded my lead guitar to be "Basic Programmer" playing Base.

I installed a sweet weight plate rack in my garage for my beloved bumper plates. I only have to install hinges underneath the center wood platform and I should be done. But then what will I do with my life?

Training was going well for the latest track meet that will occur this Saturdady, but I went to a soccer practice and injured my right knee, right trap and left hip. I just had a light upper body workout yesterday. I hate getting old.

Poor mom is recuperating from her cateract surgery on Thursday. It "looks" like everything went fine and she can see much more clearly through the first eye, the yellow curtains have been drawn back. Now she'll have the other one done. Suzy says "Gack."

Speed Stacking!

Looks like I'll have to give up Shot Putting and start this sport:

But is it a sport? Folks is up in arms about this latest craze:

But do you have to wear a cup?
Personally I don't think it's my cup of tea.

Gag

Suzy asked last night when I was going to update my blog. If I'm not going to post on it, I should just shut it down. Fair enough. So I give to you...daily minutae:

So I was choking down my (try to be )daily salad as usual with some particularly tough broccoli. All of a sudden I feel a soft slimey ball in my mouth. I thought for a second it might be a piece of tomatoe, but it doesn't really taste like anything. So I pull it out with my fingers, and it’s a big 2" black and grey ball of rotten broccoli! Needless to say I just threw the rest of the salad away. In retrospect it might've been a rotten bug.
